bonus points, classwork December 18th, 2007Do you recognise these three?
After completing the work set in class, answer the questions below to gain some points, remember questions will be posted every week on the blog that all count towards the Scoreboard- some may be hidden… (Do not let Scott win the prize again in January!).
1. Explain when you would require strength and when you would require speed in Basketball.
2. How do you train to improve your strength?
3. Can you find out what the following mean-
a) Isometric exercise b) Isokenetic exercises c) Isotonic exercise
If I do not see you Thursday or Friday, then have a great Crimbo. Do not eat too much as when we return we have 3 more weeks of basketball and then it is GYMNASTICS!

1. You need strength in basket ball when you are performing a lay – up or when you do a long pass.
You need speed in basketball when you are dribbling to get away from you opponent.
You can improve your strenght by weight training- High weights at low reps.
3. a) Isokinetic is when your muscles require control through a range of movements. The amount of muscular force is decreased and increased as moment occurs
b) Isometric is when you require your muscles to be still, this would be useful in gymnasts.
c) Isotonic exercises involve the same weight but the muscles invovled are shorten or lengthen as neccessery. The joints flex and extend

1.You would require strength in basketball to perform a succesful lay up and you would require speed in basketball to get into a space or to get pass defenders to the basket.
2.Weight training is an effective way to improve all types of strenght. Exercises will vary according to the type of strenght requiring improvement (Static, explosive and dynamic).
3a.Isometric exercise- Muscular contractions against resistance without movement.
b.Isokinetic exercises- Maintaining constant tension as muscles shorten or lengthen.
c.Isotonic exercise- Involving muscular contraction in which the muscle remains under relatively constant tension while its length changes.

ahahaha. that disability mouse is in the picture.
1. in basketball you would require strength when passing a quick and effective shot to a team mate. you qould require speed when dribbling the ball down the other end of the court.
2. to improve strength you could lift a series of weights for short intervals.
3.Isometric exercise is a form of exercise involving the static contraction of a muscle without any visible movement in the angle of the joint.
Exercise performed with a specialized apparatus that provides variable resistance to a movement, so that no matter how much effort is exerted, the movement takes place at a constant speed. Such exercise is used to test and improve muscular strength and endurance, especially after injury.
Exercise when a contracting muscle shortens against a constant load, as when lifting a weight
(you spelt kinetic wrong)
