Wednesday 9th January.
classwork, homework January 8th, 2008After completing the Aspects of Fitness Revision sheet in class, research and complete the following questions regarding Principles of Training.
Q – What is meant by Specificity in terms of a physical fitness training program?
Q – What is meant by Progressive overload with regard to training?
Q – Explain why Frequency, Intensity and Duration are important for a training program?
Q – Design a one week training program for a basketball player and include all the above Principles of training. The program can be designed to improve any aspect of fitness you feel is necessary for a basketball player. (Remember to include 2 rest days and Saturday is match day).
HOMEWORK - Homework for this week is complete all the above questions. This is to be handed in or completed on the blog by Monday 14th January. If you do not have access to the blog at home, take a note of the questions you do not get completed in class and complete on paper or your PE jotter.

Hi.
Specify in tearms of physical means when you are training in 1 specific area of fitness.
Progressive overload is the gradual increase of stress place upon the body during excercise traning.
Frequency, intensity and duration are important in a training program because they all determain how much work is going to be done.
Training program for basketball player:
Monaday – go for a jog (roughly 30- 40 mins)
Tuesday – rest
Wednesday – Shuttle runs for 10 mins, 5 mins rest and then short jog (10mins)
Thursday – rest
Friday – 1 min of sprinting followed by 1 min of jogging followed by 1 min of walking etc. do for 20 mins.
Saturday – match
Sunday – short jog (15-20mins)

1) To train a skill that is needed for a specific sport or activity.
2) Progressive overload is the gradual increase of stress placed upon the body during exercise training.
3)Frequency – So that you don’t become unfit.
Intensity – So your body gets built up
Duration – To improve your muscular endurance and cadio-vascular endurance.
4) Day 1 – 15 minute jog and stretches, practice dribbling and 15 minute cool down.
Day 2 – 15 minute jog and stretches, practice shots and passing the ball (Chest pass). 15 minute cool down.
Day 3 – Rest day.
Day 4 – 15 minute jog and stretches, Practice techniques of defending and attacking and 15 minute cool down.
Day 5 – 15 minute jog and stretches, general training at gym (Treadmill, weights etc.) and 15 minute cool down.
Day 6 – Match day.
Day 7 – Rest.

1. Specificity has to be specific to your needs, it has to be relevant to the activity, and to your existing levels of fitness and ability.
2. Progressive overload occurs when you exercise at increasingly greater levels, you progressively add to the demands of your physical fitness pogramme as your body adjusts to the benefis of your current fitness programme.
3. Frequency, Intensity and Duration are important for a training program because when you vary them it adapts your progressive overload principle.
4. We do not know what to do because we did n

Specificity in terms of physical fitness means concentrating on a certain muscle or area of the body. like for example if you are running you would need to exercise your leg muscles.
rogressive overload is the gradual increase of stress placed upon the body during exercise training.
frequency is important for a training programme as it allows your body to cope with the harsh training.
intensity makes your muscles work hard to make the activity easier for you.
duration is important as it lets your body get used to runnnnnnin
January 9th, 2008 at 6:21 am
1. Specificity- This makes sure that the programme of work is going to improve the appropriate aspects of fitness for your activity and works the correct muscle group.
2.Progressive overload- This is the means by which you make your body work harder so that your fitness level will keep improving. This may be done by increasing the weight lifted, the number of repition is done of any exercise or the distance run.
3. Intensity is important in a training programme because the hardrer you work the more effective the training programme will be.
Duration is important in a training programme because the longer you work the more effective the training programme will be.
Frequency is important in the training programme because the more often you work the more effective the training programme will be.
4.Warm up- A light jog whilst dribbling the basketball and practise shots. Stretch your whole body.
Fitness work- A fitness outburst (The thingy where there are 3 lines of people and they help each other to perform a lay-up)
Skills work- Running and performing lay-ups.
Game situation- Playing mini games 3 vs. 3
Warm down- Walk around the hall twice.

Specificity means that u work on a certain muscle and warm it up e.g if u work on the leg muscle

Some good answers here class.
For perfect answers to questions 1,2,3 please read Gaynor, Angela and Heather’s answer above. Excellent work, you all received bonus points.
I will discuss question 4 in class when everyone has completed it.

specificty in terms of fitness means working on one specific area of the body eg arms legs.
progresive overload means this means working your body harder so your fitness level will go up.
intensity is important because the harder you work the easier the programme will be.
duration is importan because the longer you work the more efficient it will be.
frequency is important because the longer you work the more efficient it will be .
