Unfortunately, Mr Imrie and his Standard Grade class are no longer working together in 4th year, so this blog has officially closed. It will be left LIVE so pupils can continue to access the resources.

Revision for THE BODY test – 20th February.

For the test on 20th February you will need to make sure you fully revise the following sections -

  • Aspects of Fitness
  • Warm-up/down
  • Principles of training
  • Methods/types of training
  • Body structure
  • Joints
  • Oxygen Transport System

It is advised that you use all your PE resources to help you study this includes the PE wiki , the blog – including podcasts, powerpoints, and previous posts, your red folder and your PE book (pages 37 – 72)

How and what to study for your Test.

The test date remember is Wednesday 31st of October.

The test will cover everything we have completed in the Activities section. This will include the following key areas:

  • Nature and purpose.
  • Creativity.
  • Tactics.
  • Rules.
  • Adaptation.
  • Roles and Responsibilities.
  • Personal and Physical Qualities.

I advise you to use the following to help you revise -

  1. The blog – I will check the blog everyday from now to your test, to ask a question simply leave a comment to this post, you do not have to leave your name on this occasion. Or come and see me in the PE department.
  2. Your folder – read through and fully understand the blue section of your folder that we have worked through in class. This also includes your homework sheets.
  3. The class notes on the blog. Download and save them or print them out. You also have your jotter for taking notes in class.
  4. The purple Standard Grade text book – pages 18 – 36.
  5. Click HERE to take you to the 3 online tests that we have been doing through the blog in class. There are also study notes here.

In today’s class we will be discussing Tactics, physical and personal qualities.

TASK 1 – For the following below, describe in detail an attacking tactic you could use to help you to win the activity and also a defensive tactic.
(a) An individual activity.
(b) A team activity.

Please note that you should still aim to use the sheet provided in your folder.

Today’s class involves a short power point presentation on ACTIVITIES and how the following issues can affect your performance in certain activities – equipment, rules, safety, scoring.

You will need your jotters today for doing paired tasks.

TASK = Working in pairs, (or finish individually for homework- see below) write a short paragraph on what you and your partner think makes a “good sports-person.” Think about your conduct and behaviour when you are participating in an activity. (p.31 of your PE textbook will offer further help). Remember to leave both your names.

Homework = download notes from the blog and get up to date with all blog tasks.

Hi class,

Your work for today is listed below and is to be completed in this order.
Do not forget to take a note of the homework!!

Task 1
Make sure you have completed a comment for the 2 previous blog sections titled Introduction and Rules. Remember you need to start your comment with your name. (This task was set as a homework task so most of you should have completed it. Please note that some have added a comment for Rules but it will not show yet as the rest would copy).

Task 2
For two of the activities in the pictures opposite, write a short paragraph about that activity stating the following information about it-

  1. Is it an individual or team activity?
  2. Is it directly competivite / indirectly competitive/ or a non competitive activity? Why?
  3. Does it have an objective or subjective scoring system? Explain what this means?
  4. Explain how being creative could help you in this activity?
  5. What Physical Quality would be a benefit to this activity and why?

This block we are studying ACTIVITIES through badminton and fitness. We now know that badminton is a directly competitive activity that can be played individually (singles) or in a team (doubles).

Please post me 2 formal rules and 1 unwritten rule of badminton.
